Shocking Cat Murders in the US: Kittens Killed in Microwave and Drowned

A disturbing case has surfaced in the United States, where a 22-year-old man is accused of gruesomely murdering cats. As reported by the British newspaper, Mirror, the man allegedly drowned kittens or put them in a microwave, among other horrifying methods of killing.

The Accused: Thomas Martel

Thomas Martel, a resident of Chicago, was caught last month dismembering kittens after microwaving them. This is just one of the ways Martel killed cats. To avoid arousing his mother's suspicion, he repeatedly bought new cats that resembled the previous ones, which he later also killed.

The Unveiling of the Crimes

Since May, Martel, who works as a roofer, is believed to have killed six kittens. His girlfriend became aware of this after receiving a video from a friend. The video showed Martel throwing a pillowcase into a nearby lake. According to the friend, it was clear that it contained a cat, which led to the realization of Martel's actions. The girlfriend recalled a cat named Shelly that she never saw again.

Martel continued to buy new cats on Craigslist, a site where anyone can post various types of advertisements. One of the new cats was forcibly submerged in a tub of water by Martel, leading to its death. Despite attempting to resuscitate the cat with chest compressions, Martel ended up putting the kitten in a bag and discarding it.

The Gruesome Murders Continue

In a similar fashion, the cat murders continued. Eventually, the girlfriend found videos on Martel's phone showing how a fourth kitten was killed. In late June, she came across a bag that, as she described, smelled terrible. Martel explained that it contained cats that he had microwaved. At this point, the girlfriend decided to take action and called the Chicago police in the middle of the night. The police eventually found parts of different kittens in the aforementioned bag.

After the discovery of the bag with kittens, Martel was arrested and taken for psychiatric evaluation. According to his lawyer, the 22-year-old is already slated to begin a mental health treatment program and has no previous criminal convictions.
