Photographer Admits Award-Winning Photo Was Made by Artificial Intelligence

German photographer Boris Eldagsen has refused a prestigious award after revealing that the image that won the competition was created by artificial intelligence. Eldagsen won the Creative Open category of the Sony World Photography Awards with a black-and-white photo of two women.

However, he announced on his website that he would reject the prize because the image was made by AI. Eldagsen claims that this was an experiment to test whether photography competitions would accept AI images.

By rejecting the award, he hopes to spark a debate about what constitutes photography and what does not.
