Police in Kenya find 21 bodies of starved cult members

The police in Kenya have discovered 21 bodies of members of the Good News International Church who are believed to have died of starvation after fasting for long periods. The leader of the sect, Makenzie Nthenge, reportedly encouraged the act, stating that it would lead to the meeting of Jesus. Three children were also among the victims, and more bodies are feared to be found. The police discovered the bodies during an investigation of the sect’s premises, where they also found other emaciated members, eleven of whom were sent to the hospital. Nthenge was arrested after the discovery of four bodies near the city of Malindi, and is currently on a hunger strike in detention.
